Founder of Tresor

Dimitri Hegemann, cultural force, researcher, and pioneer of subcultural spaces likes to deal with things that are different. Milestones of his work include the non-conformist Atonal Festival, the development of the Berlin Tresor Club, and the import of the new music of the time from Detroit, called “techno”. In recent years, spatial researcher Hegemann has devoted himself to forgotten industrial spaces and alternative urban development: the transformation of ruins and vacancies into lively cultural spaces is his strategy for new, modern, and prosperous creative industries and productive jobs. In 2012, he founded the consulting agency “Happy Locals”, together with Annette Ochs, which develops strategies for small and large communities that are affected by migration in Germany and abroad. In 2021, Hegemann founded the Tresor Foundation Berlin. Its purpose is the removal of cultural spaces from speculative markets and the resulting long-term planning security and prospects for cultural workers. In addition, Hegemann is the founder of the initiative “Clubs for Germany”, the presentation of which at the German City Day 2021 triggered many inquiries to bring club landscape and night culture to German medium-sized cities.
